New Plugin — BuddyPress Translations

I’m happy to announce BuddyPress Translations, a new plugin for BuddyPress that makes it really easily to get BuddyPress translated into your language. It uses community-provided translations from Translate.WordPress.org.

It’s harder than it should be to get BuddyPress, or any other WordPress plugin, to display in your native language. BuddyPress Translations is a bundle of translations contributed by the community over at Translate.WordPress.org.

Activate the plugin, and boom — you get BuddyPress in all of these languages:

  • Dutch
  • Croatian
  • Korean
  • Russian
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • Portuguese (Portugal)
  • Norwegian (Bokmål)
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Spanish (Spain)

Thanks to Remkus de Vries for advice and inspiration from his Genesis Translations plugin. Big thanks to all contributors for these translations. BuddyPress wouldn’t be as great as it is without your contributions, and this plugin wouldn’t exist.

I will be updating this plugin periodically as translations are updated and new languages are completed (github). I’m hoping to fully automate this process in due course, and as part of that, I’m also pleased to release my first-ever Ruby script called “Get GlotPress POMOs“. It scans a GlotPress project for complete translations, and downloads the .mo and .pot files. It’s a great timesaver.
